Creation of Shared Preservation Program for Print Collections (SPPPC) at PBUQ

The members of the Partenariat des bibliothèques universitaires du Québec (PBUQ) recently signed an agreement formalizing the creation of a shared preservation program. With the goal of preserving a common corpus, the project involves print monographs available for loan, including government publications, music scores, children’s literature, as well as print and electronic periodicals available for loan. The SPPPC (Shared Preservation Program for Print Collections) aims to:

  • Ensure the best possible preservation conditions for the university libraries’ print collections, while optimizing the use of space, and to continue to respond effectively to the needs of users;
  • Adopt a Quebec-wide shared preservation program to which all university libraries in the province contribute;
  • Formalize and communicate the preservation commitments of each library, according to the needs, size and resources of their affiliated institution.
