Quebec University Libraries Increase The Visibility Of French-language Resources At The National And International Level Through The Francophone Name Authority Program And RVM (Répertoire De Vedettes-matière)

Quebec University Libraries increase the visibility of French-language resources at the national and international level through the Francophone Name Authority Program and RVM (Répertoire de vedettes-matière)

Two major projects were implemented to increase the visibility of French-language resources :

Francophone Names Authority Program (PFAN)

Library and Archives Canada (LAC), Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), and the 15 Francophone Quebec university libraries co-developed this program, which was launched in the summer of 2020 to enhance and increase the discoverability of French-language documentary heritage. Through PFAN, participating institutions can also contribute to the Canadiana Authorities File by providing authority records for authors, agents, places, research content, and expressions. With an increased number of partners, this could lead to a major unifying project within the French-language community, somewhat like the Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO), PFAN’s English-language counterpart.

Updated RVM business model (Répertoire de vedettes-matière)

Quebec University Libraries , BAnQ, LAC, public and college libraries, and the Société des musées du Québec collaborated to update the RVM business model. These subject headings will be published in open and linked data. This ensures shared governance, sustainable funding and increased engagement in the French-language community. RVM, which was developed by Université Laval, is a partially bilingual controlled subject vocabulary that includes four thesauri to facilitate research and obtain more accurate results.
