Quebec University Libraries will progressively implement self-service lending kiosks with or without RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology in most Quebec University Libraries over the next three years. RFID  technology offers many advantages to both users and libraries:

  • Faster and more fluid transactions, e.g., users will be able to loan several documents in a single transaction, rather than one document at a time, while eliminating the need to demagnetize documents;
  • Easier document identification and location, simplifying operations like sorting, managing inventories and moving collections;
  • Improved access to collections while creating a positive impact on document circulation;
  • Greater protection against collection theft.
